Celebrate Monsoons with Sao Jaoa Goa

Goa is unbeatable when it comes to vibrant celebrations. The coastal state along the Arabian Sea knows to really enjoy festivities. Sao Joao is a festival of the state which reminds of the festivities’, excitement and fervor of Goa.


Celebrated on the 24th of June every year, Sao Joao has a unique importance in Christianity as it is devoted to St. John the Baptist and is identified all across the state with pomp and passion. Visitors from all over India and other parts of the globe travel to Goa to enjoy one of its evidently insane and lively monsoon celebrations. This vibrant food is not just a customized but focuses on what it means to be Goan: enthusiastic, fun adoring and bigger than lifestyle.


According to legends, this day celebrates the enjoyment experienced by the unborn John, who is said to have ‘leapt in joy’ in his mom Elizabeth’s womb when visited by Mary, the mom of Christ. The customized of individuals jump into water bodies is in replica of John’s result of euphoria.
The Sao Joao Festival is mainly identified by the local youngsters of the towns who interact with themselves in endless celebrations. These include getting intoxicated, moving within the water wells, taking fruits and vegetables etc which are all a part of the customized of Sao Joao.


San Joao, like any other Goan food has that fascinating soul of merriment, color and customized. People wearing vibrant clothing from several towns meet near a flow or water body in carnival-coloured vessels and drifts. It is similar to the Circus in few ways. The state reverberates with calls of “Viva re Sao Joao” during the celebrations.
